| Size 11 Women's Dance Shoes |
[Jul. 6th, 2008|09:35 am] |
Hi!
I have a partner dancing class on Tuesday night and the only directive was to wear "shoes with a leather sole". I'd actually like to find some dance shoes that I can wear for more classes. I also have kind of big feet, so I need a size 10.5 or 11.
Any suggestions of brick and mortar stores that might have these and be open today (Sunday)? I'd go anywhere in Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn or Nassau.
Thanks in advance!

| Chocolate Macarons |
[Jul. 6th, 2008|04:41 pm] |

These chocolate macarons are so hard to make correctly. My first batch fell flat and didn't form the unique "feet" that French macarons should have--this was due to my helper not knowing what to do and whipping the batter really quickly while I went to check the oven temperature. :(
The photos are from my second batch, which turned out much better than the first. I didn't draw circles onto the parchment, nor did I have a piping tip that was big enough, so they came out slightly imperfect. I'm really pleased with how they came out! ( More photos & link to recipe! ) x-posted to my own journal, bakebakebake , food_porn |

Americans - I need to know what one cup of grated carrot weighs.
We have different sized cups to you guys (not to mention, we only have one sort!) and I have a US recipe that calls for one cup of grated carrot.
If anyone knows, please enlighten me! |

| Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer |
[Jul. 6th, 2008|12:39 am] |
Hello!
I'm looking into to buying a Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer for myself, but I can't decide between the KitchenAid® 5-qt. Artisan Stand Mixer and the KitchenAid® Pro5 Plus Stand Mixer. I remember reading before that sometimes the commercial-grade mixers (Pro5) can end up being a better buy, in comparison to the Artisan, because they have higher wattage motors and won't burn out as quickly. However, I haven't heard of anyone really having a problem with an Artisan burning out.
Any recommendations? Or has anyone had a problem with an Artisan mixer before? |

| I love guys' t-shirts |

| | tired | ] | Here is another guys' shirt that I bought. I thought it was a cool design. I did another shirt in a similar way to this one- just using another shirt as my pattern. I used the sewing machine to take in the sides. Everything that I cut, I left the edges raw. Then I poked holes in the center to do the cinching effect. I used a cut strip from a black t-shirt to make the string. Then I hand-sewed some velvet across the top. Then I poked 10 holes 1/2 inch apart on each strap and threaded a black thick string through. I sewed it in place on each strap. And I also cut a few inches off the bottom. I didn't take pictures of the back, but it is cut same as the front- no cinching though and just plain white on the back. Hooray!

| | hot | ] | So it was like 105 degrees a couple weeks ago when I made these. Good to wear when it's hot. These are both boys' size t-shirts. I love to buy them. They have good designs and they are so cheap. I just cut off the sleeves, just inside the seam. Then I measured 2 inches down from the collar and drew a line to meet the armpit. Then I cut that line and cut just under the collar. That's it. I learned that one from a book too.

[Jul. 5th, 2008|07:48 pm] |
| | [05 Jul 2008|07:46pm] | HI: Im an art student living in Amsterdam. I wish to apply for Cooper Union but I need a US address to do so. What I basically need is for someone to receive my application materials and send them to CU, Receive the hometest and send it to me, receive it again when I finish it and send it to CU again, you know the process better than me. I would pay for all Fedex expenses and I would give you $50 for all your troubles. Hope someone can help. Thanks. |

| Dentists! |
[Jul. 5th, 2008|07:01 pm] |
Yes, I checked the memories, and found a few good suggestions, but it can never hurt to ask for more.
I need a dentist. Like, yesterday. My tooth has been hurting for a few days now, but this being a holiday weekend, there's not much I can do until Monday. And, since my dentist is in Michigan, I need someone new, who can preferably fit me in soon!
Also, I know nothing about insurance. Since I normally do this at home, where my wonderful mother deals with things like payments and insurance, I have no idea how it all works for dental. So, if the dentist is also a pro at explaining how much they're billing you, why, how it will be covered by insurance, etc., that would be awesome.
Thank you, all, forever and ever.
EDIT for information I forgot because I'm just a little off today: I live in Morningside Heights, and work in SoHo, so the UWS is best, or anywhere on the west side of Manhattan, but I'm willing to travel for a good dentist. Also, I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan as my insurance. |

| About to be inundated... |
[Jul. 5th, 2008|06:35 pm] |
Due to some planting issues this spring, I have inadvertently ended up with four thriving zucchini (courgette) plants in my garden. Last year we "only" had two plants, and we still drowned in the stuff. In addition to baking, stuffing, sauteing and steaming it all summer long, and giving it away at every opportunity, I had piles of pre-shredded zuke in ziplocs bags in my freezer - which I am only just now finishing off. And keep in mind I use it a fair amount as a base for my grain-free quiche and pizza crusts, too.
So, anyway - my frustration last year was that the majority of zucchini-based recipes (breads/muffins, etc) only used a cup or two of the stuff - hardly anything at all when you're faced with a constant avalanche of squash. I'm hoping the community can help me out: What are your favorite zucchini/courgette recipes that use a LOT of zucchini? Both sweet and savory dishes are welcome. Bonus points if the savory recipes are not dependent on grains (ANY grains, in any form), soy, or refined sugar. (I know - I'm asking a lot; it's not required but would be nice. :) ) Grains, sugar, etc are fine for muffin/cake/bread/etc recipes.
Thank you! |
