Before you read this, keep in mind I am firmly against using guns, and refuse to own one or allow one in my home. But, putting that aside for a moment...
My brother, boyfriend and I went and shot guns for 3 hours yesterday! I learned a lot about the purpose of different types of guns, the effects of different types of bullets, and how to handle a gun. It was really cool. Very much a science of its own. Everyone was really friendly, and we talked with these 2 older gentleman that had a huuuge collection of rifles. They gave us a wealth of information on how to hunt, and the stories behind some of their guns. They even let us try out their high-end scope. I never thought I would enjoy this type of thing, but actually it was pretty interesting. I had no idea how much effort it takes to hold a gun steady - no matter how hard to you try to hold still, your heartbeat still causes it to move - and its noticeable.
One of the old guys taped an old bullet to the target, then shot right threw the middle of it, and gave it to me as a souvenir. My boyfriend used the scope to shoot right through the middle of a quarter. I shot a big ol' shotgun that blew me back about 2 feet just from the recoil.
All I need to do now is start chewin tabbacky and I'll be a true American... |
